Making a photo page.
Hey there, this is Nhat the Photo Editor. I often get messages asking me how I put my page together. There are some tips and tricks that are good to know if you're building a page to show your photography. Below is my quick guide on how I built my page.
When I started building my page, I wanted to have a large photo header image that spanned the width of the entire page. This is a quick and easy way to brand your space as a photography page. The maximum page width for an Uber page is 988 pixels, so in Photoshop crop and size your image to this max width. Upload the image to your Library.
Next, go into Pages and edit your page.
Click on the Background button, bringing up the lightbox that allows you to choose a color or an image as background.
Drag your image over to the Inner Background area. Don't choose Background Repeat unless you want to tile your image.
The next step is adding the invisible spacer modules. An invisible spacer module adds separation and spaces in between your various modules.
In this instance, you need to add the spacer module so that the content of your page starts below your header image. So if your header image is 300 pixels tall, you should add a spacer that is an additional 50 pixels, so in this example that would be a spacer module that is 350 pixels. This is a trial and error process, so play around and see what works best for you.
Uber pages have column formats. I recommend a ½-½ page. This way your photo modules appear large and impressive.
Now it’s a simple matter of adding the modules to build your page. As a photographer, I use a lot of photo modules. You can add as many of these as you wish. They are a good way of presenting your body of photographs because each module can be a theme or subject matter. For example, on my page I have one photo module that is for my professional work and another for my personal photos. The options are endless as you can arrange them however you want to. When you add a photo module, you can choose to drag photo into it one by one or you can designate the contents of individual folders.
I also recommend adding a blog to your page as another way to display your photos with your added commentary. I use my photoblog to post outtakes from my photo shoots and I talk a little bit about the photos. I also use my blog to post photos and links to other photographers on Uber. To add the blog module, go in to your My Page and click on the Advanced Edit mode. Click on the Modules button and from there select the Blog module. Click on the Publish button and this will save the changes you just made.
To create a blog entry, you need to go the Library tab where your photos, videos and other media are stored. Your blogs are created, stored and managed in the Library section. Click on the Write New Post button to create a new entry. Photos can be inserted from either your Uber library or from an external image link using the Embed function.
Be sure to add a Comment or Message Board module to your page so people can talk to you about your photography.
